Nursing (Pre-Licensure) (B.S.N.)

The Nebraska Wesleyan University Pre-Licensure BSN program offers a traditional 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree combining clinical and foundational knowledge including liberal arts courses to receive a more comprehensive education.

Students will gain hands on experience with over 900 clinical hours completed upon graduation from the program. Students will further develop critical thinking, decision-making and communication skills through clinical and preceptorship experiences. Students will also train in a fully equipped skills lab. Access to a simulation lab will be included in the clinical coursework.

This program has small class sizes with experienced faculty in all specialty areas of nursing. A prep course is built into the curriculum to help students succeed on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).

Students will first complete prerequisite coursework totaling 34-36 credits before admission to the program. All nursing courses will be offered through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Most nursing courses are in 8 week formats to better focus on content material.

Standard Admission

Admission to the NWU pre-licensure BSN program is a competitive process and is based upon pre-requisite GPA, overall college GPA, entrance exam, interview, essay, and professional references. It is a selective process that admits a limited number of students per year. Students must meet these requirements to be admitted:

  • Completion of pre-requisite courses with grade of “C” or better
  • Cumulative college GPA of 2.0 or above
  • CPR certification for Healthcare Providers
  • Successful completion of a Certified Nurse Aid course and listed on the state registry.
  • Submission of 2 professional references
  • Successful completion of background check, drug screen, immunization tracker, and essential functions form.

After the online application for the nursing program is complete, qualified applicants will interview with nursing faculty, write an essay on site, and take the Kaplan admission exam. Admission process is subject to change and/or revision by nursing faculty.

Archway Nursing Honors Admission

The Archway Nursing Honors Admission (ANHA) program offers highly qualified students a guaranteed place among the limited available spaces in the pre-licensure BSN program. No more than one half of each admission cohort may be admitted under the ANHA, and the ANHA slots are filled on a first-come, first-serv basis (based on date admissions deposit is received by the Admissions Office). As ANHA candidates successfully complete the requirements to maintain their status, the nursing application, interview and recommendations are waived (except ANHA students must complete their Certified Nursing Assistant and CPR certifications) and ANHA students will continue their course of study in the pre-licensure BSN program.

ANHA admission is granted for High School Students meeting these criteria by the end of their senior year of high school:

  • High school eligibility requirements
  • Minimum score of 24 on ACT or comparable score for SAT
  • Cumulative GPA:  3.6 or above

ANHA admission is granted to College Transfer Students meeting these criteria:

  • Cumulative 3.0 GPA
  • No repeated courses
  • No pass/fail courses in sciences (except labs)
  • No grade below C (2.0) in any course

ANHA admission is granted to College Transfer Students with a Bachelor’s or Graduate Degree meeting these criteria:

  • Graduated with cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher
  • No grade below C (2.0) in any prerequisite course needed

Requirements at NWU to maintain your ANHA status:

  • Must be full time student (at least 12 credits per semester) and follow required curriculum
  • Must meet with a Nebraska Wesleyan University Nursing faculty advisor once per semester to plan and monitor course progression
  • Maintenance of cumulative 3.00 GPA
  • No repeated courses
  • No pass/fail courses in sciences (except labs)
  • A grade below C (2.0) in any course is not accepted

ANHA candidates who do not meet the requirements to maintain their status in the cohort may apply for admission to the pre-licensure BSN program via the standard admission process.
