This course is a graduate-level survey of U.S. international relations from the Revolutionary War period through contemporary U.S. involvement in Iraq, Afghanistan and the United Nations. Students will be introduced to the field of international relations, including its methodological debates, and discuss the history of U.S. relations with other cultures and nations, including diplomatic, military, economic and cultural encounters. Students will also be exposed to differing pedagogical approaches to teaching U.S. international relations in the classroom.
