Nursing (Pre-Licensure) (B.S.N.)

The Nebraska Wesleyan University pre-licensure BSN program offers a traditional 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree combining clinical and foundational knowledge including liberal arts courses to receive a more comprehensive education.

Students will gain hands on experience with over 900 clinical hours completed upon graduation from the program. Students will further develop critical thinking, decision-making and communication skills through clinical and preceptorship experiences. Students will also train in a fully equipped skills lab. Access to a simulation lab will be included in the clinical coursework.

This program has small class sizes with experienced faculty in all specialty areas of nursing. A prep course is built into the curriculum to help students succeed on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).

Students will first complete prerequisite coursework totaling 34-36 credits before admission to the program. All courses are offered in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Most nursing courses are in 8 week formats to better focus on content material.

Standard Admission

Admission to the NWU pre-licensure BSN program is a competitive process and is based upon pre-requisite GPA, overall college GPA, entrance exam, interview, essay, and professional references. It is a selective process that admits a limited number of students per year. Students must meet these requirements to be admitted:

  • Completion of pre-requisite courses with grade of “C” or better
  • Cumulative college GPA of 2.5 or above
  • CPR certification for Healthcare Providers
  • Successful completion of a Certified Nurse Aid course and listed on the state registry.
  • Submission of 2 professional references
  • Successful completion of background check, drug screen, immunization tracker, and essential functions form.

After the online application for the nursing program is complete, qualified applicants will interview with nursing faculty, write an essay on site, and take the Kaplan admission exam. Admission process is subject to change and/or revision by nursing faculty.

Archway Nursing Honors Admission

The Archway Nursing Honors Admission (ANHA) program offers highly qualified students a guaranteed place in the next cohort of students in the Pre-licensure BSN program. As ANHA candidates successfully complete the requirements to maintain their status, the nursing application process is modified to eliminate the following requirements:  the Kaplan Pre-Nursing Exam, the interview with nursing faculty, and the completion of the essay questions. Students are required to complete the other admission requirements as outlined in the Nursing Student Handbook available on the Nebraska Wesleyan University website.

  • Admission is granted if you meet these criteria by the end of your senior year of high school.

      • No pass/fail courses in sciences (except labs)
      • A grade below C (2.0) in any course is not accepted

      • Must meet with a Nebraska Wesleyan University Nursing faculty advisor once per semester to plan and monitor course progression
